WWE Superstar Xavier Woods has revealed that he's dealing with a serious neck injury, stemming from this past Monday's episode of Raw, where he wrestled Penta in a singles match. In a video statement shared on social media, a visibly emotional Woods -- wearing a neck brace -- blamed Raw General Manager Adam Pearce for orchestrating the attack that left him sidelined.
Xavier Woods Claims Penta Injured His Neck
According to Woods, the injury occurred after taking a devastating "Mexican Destroyer," also known as a Canadian Destroyer or front-flip piledriver. It was a move that Penta has safely delivered to several opponents in his matches. "This past Monday, I suffered a debilitating injury due to the irresponsibility of one Adam Pearce," Woods said. "This front-flip 720 piledriver adds an incredible amount of velocity and force to the impact and drastically increases the chance for a serious neck injury."
Staying in character, Woods accused Pearce of sending a "masked mercenary" to take him out and prevent The New Day from getting another shot at the WWE Tag Team Championship. He also expressed frustration over what he sees as unfair treatment compared to other top WWE stars. "Randy Orton was assaulted with a piledriver, and he was cared for. Cody Rhodes was assaulted with a piledriver and he was cared for," Woods said. "I was assaulted with a pile driver. Where was my care? Where was my Jason Jordan, where was my Shane Helms? Where was my Jamie Noble? Where was my general manager?"
Just A Storyline Or A Potentially Real Injury?
While much of Woods' statement fits within WWE's ongoing storyline, it is in line with what his character would do. However, reports from Fightful Select suggest there may be a legitimate injury involved. Witnesses have reportedly seen Woods wearing his neck brace off-camera, including in public, which is uncommon when an injury is purely scripted. Then again, Seth Rollins fully committed to his injury storyline, using crutches everywhere. He was fine.
As Woods recovers -- whether just on television or in real life -- his New Day partner Kofi Kingston is set to step into the ring against Penta this Monday on Raw in Birmingham. Kingston has vowed to "avenge" Woods, promising to make sure no one else on the roster suffers a similar fate.
