As usual, Gabi Netwell was plenty busy during a track-and-field meet, most recently helping the Washington-Liberty Generals finish first in the girls Liberty District outdoor high-school championships.
The junior placed high in seven events as the Generals won with 118 points, just six more than the co-runner-ups Wakefield Warriors and Langley Saxons. The meet was held on two days over two weeks at Wakefield.
Netwall's highest finish was winning the 400-meter dash in 57.17 seconds. She was second in the 100 and 200, third in the shot put and long jump, fifth in the high jump and sixth in the discus.
The Generals had a number of other athletes place in multiple events, including Ella Kaplan with a win in the triple jump (34-19), a tie for second in the high jump, a third in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 100.
Morgan Brown was third in the 100 and 200 and ran on the third-place 4×100 relay. Eve Jungman won the shot put (35-8 1/2) and was third in the discus, and Elizabeth Rupert placed sixth in the shot and seventh in the discus.
Washington-Liberty's Alexis Morley-Lascano was third in the pole vault, Camille Walker fourth in the discus, Therese Johansson fourth in the 800, Mina Dowler seventh in the 3,200, Aida Edsall seventh in the 400 and Maddie Brys eighth in the 800. Edsall ran on two relays and Johansson and Walker one each.
The district title was the most recent for the Washington-Liberty girls. The squad won district and region titles during this past winter's indoor season.
Leading Wakefield at the outdoor championships was Grace Armitage. She won the 300 hurdles (46.2) and long jump (16-11), was second in the 100 hurdles, third in the triple jump and ninth in the high jump.
Wakefield's Olivia Barr was second in the shot and discus, Ada Jordan second in the 800 and first in the triple jump, Madeleine Wearing second in the pole vault, Purvi Oberkirsch third in the 400, Sadie Stein fifth in the 100 and eighth in the 200, and Jillian Reck sixth in the 100.
Wakefield won all three relays: the 4×100 (51.45), 4×400 (4:06.24) and 4×800 (9:25.52). Armitage ran on the 4×100.
For the Yorktown girls, Kaiya Ovando won the discus (114-8) and was fourth in the shot, Olivia Stafford was third in the 100, Ellen Malloy third in the 800 and Molly Hardwick third in the 1,600 and 10th in the 800. The 4×100 relay was second.
