Jo Whiley has shared her heartbreak after her husband was involved in a tragic accident that killed their family cat.
The BBC Radio DJ, 60, became emotional as she spoke on the latest episode of her Dig It podcast, which she co-hosts with Zoe Ball.
Whiley revealed that her husband Steve accidentally ran over the cat, Simba, shortly after the family returned from holiday.
"I feel like I haven't been honest about what's going on in my life. But I can't. I just can't talk about it. I was going to, but I'm not going to now", she began.
Composing herself, she added: "We had a horrible thing happen yesterday. We came back from holiday and I got a call from Steve in a complete panic.
"He had come home, it sounds ridiculous to say but he had run our cat over. It's really sad."
Ball responded with sympathy, telling her co-host: "Oh my god, darling. That's awful. Poor Steve."
Whiley explained further: "He literally drove in really slowly and went to move her out of the way.
"He physically moved her, thought she had gone, then drove in and she hadn't. We just can't work out what on earth happened.
The broadcaster admitted the accident had left the family devastated. "It's been horrid," she said. "But you know, it's another day."
Fans and celebrity friends including Fearne Cotton and Dermot O'Leary quickly sent messages of condolence following the news.
Cotton commented: "Love you Jo jo. Losing cats is heart breaking stuff. Im sending you so much love."
"Oh Jo this totally broke my heart I'm so sorry," author and writer Dawn O'Porter wrote while O'Leary shared a love heart emoji and kiss.
Later in the day, Whiley took to Instagram to share a tribute post to Simba alongside a snap of her late cat.
She penned: "We lost our beloved Simba this week in a horrible accident. She was such an incredible beauty and we were lucky she allowed us to live in her house.
"And occasionally hold her. Though not for very long of course.
"RIP Simba [love heart emoji] There really was nothing you couldn't sleep in or on. We loved you very much".
