High School Spotlight: Saint Joseph's Wyatt Amm

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) -- The Indiana State hockey tournament begins Friday night.

Fresh off their city title, the Saint Joe Huskies are one of the favorites in the largest class.

"It's just taking the extra time for myself, making sure all my imperfections are kinda sawed out. After this much practice, the physical stuff startin' to go away. It's mostly mental stuff at this stage of the game. So, I just gotta make sure if I let in a goal or have a bad game, I know who I am and I know what I can do still," said Wyatt Amm, SB Saint Joseph sophomore goalie.

Sophomore netminder Wyatt Amm certainly has shown his ability.

Amm let in under a goal and a half per game in 45 starts this year, the best in the Michiana High School Hockey League.

"It's very seldom you see a goaltender come into the high school level and be able to compete right away. And Wyatt's been there for us the whole road. And we preach team defense, but knowing you have a quality goaltender like Wyatt in net back there for us makes it a little easier," said Chris Kleva, SB Saint Joseph Head Hockey Coach.

Fresh off its city tournament championship, Amm and Saint Joe enter the state tournament this week searching for its first title since 1989.

"All of us, we've been scoring, playing good defense. I've been playing my part. If we all play our roles, I'm pretty confident we'll be successful," said Amm.

"I mean I don't want to change him. If he can just continue to do what he's done for us for 45 games, I like our chances coming up in the tournament," said Kleva.
