Robin Roberts' Wife Amber Shares 'Sudden' Health Update After Cancer Treatment

The massage therapist and entrepreneur took to her business page on Instagram to share her diagnosis of medical menopause, which is an unfortunate side effect of "many breast cancer treatments."

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, medical menopause, or treatment-induced menopause, may or may not be permanent, depending on a patient's age, the types and dosage of drugs they were exposed to, and how long they were on them. It happens when chemotherapy, radiation, or hormone-suppression drugs cause damage to the ovaries.

"This isn't your typical menopause," Laign explained, reiterating that it happens when drugs cause the ovaries "to slow down or stop producing hormones prematurely."

"This sudden shift can bring about menopause symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings, often more abruptly than natural menopause," she wrote alongside a video of her smiling and swaying in front of the camera. "It's a challenging side effect that many women face during and after their fight with cancer."

Laign's company, Plant Juice Oils, produces essential oils meant to support women's health holistically, and fans were grateful for the focus, transparency and support.

"I wish you were around 20 years ago when I went through medical menopause," one admitted. "I've had cancer treatments 3 times in the last 20 years and I'm so grateful to be here to talk about it 🙏🏼...but it really does wreck havoc on your body, mind & soul."
