HARLEM, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - One person is dead after a pursuit with deputies ended in a crash in Harlem on Monday, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say around 4:15 p.m., they received information that a Chevrolet Malibu was being operated by Shawn E. Threatt, 41, of Milledgeville.
Threatt had several active felony warrants through Columbia County, Grovetown, Waynesboro and the Georgia Department of Parole, according to officials.
The pursuit began at Appling Harlem Road and West Forrest Street. Deputies say it went over to North Fairview Drive and eventually went south on Sawdust Road.
According to the sheriff's office, a deputy was approaching the pursuit from the direction in which it was heading and ended up being struck by the fleeing vehicle.
Threatt was transported to Doctor's Hospital by Gold Cross.
The deputy received minor injuries from the accident and was taken to the hospital by CCSO personnel for an evaluation.
Threatt was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the sheriff's office.
