KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The 2024 Greater Knoxville Heart Walk is set to start Saturday morning at Zoo Knoxville, raising money to fund research efforts and train more people on how to save lives during emergencies.

Money raised through the event supports the American Heart Association, an organization that works to improve research into heart disease and stroke. It also organizes CPR training and works to support medical breakthroughs and deliver equitable health care.

People who participate in the Greater Knoxville Heart Walk will be able to walk 2 miles in Zoo Knoxville after an introduction and ceremony at around 8:30 a.m. Organizers said while fundraising is encouraged, people who don't want to donate can also just participate in the event to learn more about heart health.

People will be able to see zoo animals for free while also getting heart-healthy resources and learning CPR hands-on. While families are welcome, organizers also said that dogs will need to stay at home.
