A driver heading south down El Camino Real in Santa Clara struck and killed a college student on Thursday morning, according to police.
The crash occurred just before noon at El Camino Real and Accolti Way. Officers who responded to the scene found an 18-year-old man on the ground with "visible injuries."
Although paramedics tried lifesaving efforts and transported the victim to a hospital, he ultimately died. Police investigating the incident did not immediately identify the victim beyond describing him as a student at Santa Clara University.
The motorist remained at the scene and cooperated with police, who said drugs and alcohol did not appear to factor in the collision.
Police have asked witnesses to call traffic investigator David Machado at 408-615-4764.
