No. 12 Summit shuts out Nutley in North 1, Group 3 opener - Boys lacrosse recap

James Grainger scored four goals and added three assists as top-seeded Summit beat Nutley, 18-0, in the first round of the North, Group 3 tournament in Summit.

The Hilltoppers (14-4) showcased their offensive firepower with Will Iacovelli contributing three goals and two assists for five points. Grainger's seven-point performance led all scorers in the shutout victory over the 16th-seeded Raiders (9-10).

Summit's offense was relentless throughout the game, with eight different players finding the back of the net. Brayden Messer and Quinn Hynes each scored twice, while Jack Freeman also added two goals.

The Hilltoppers' faceoff specialists controlled possession, winning 16 of 20 faceoffs. Andrew Smallwood won 9 of 12 faceoffs for a 75% success rate, while Will Holmes went 4-for-5 (80%) and Irtza Hamid was perfect at 3-for-3.

Summit's defense was equally impressive, holding Nutley scoreless. Goalkeepers Robbie Kievit and Zeller Clark-Schoeb combined for four saves in the shutout.

With the victory, Summit advances to host the winner of eighth-seeded Princeton and ninth-seeded Red Bank Regional in the quarterfinals.
