Donation provides boost to Burley-in-Wharfedale Rangers' boat upcycling project

Housebuilder David Wilson Homes recently supported 1st Burley-in-Wharfedale Rangers with an upcycling project.

The group, made up of girls aged 14 to 18-years-old, have taken on a project to upcycle a boat to earn their Eco Badge and a donation from the housebuilder helped them on their way.

This brand-new badge was released on Earth Day (April 22) and was a result of a girl guides' attitudes survey, which found climate change was a big concern.

Following the boat being salvaged from Reva Water Activity Centre, it began its second life as part of Burley-in-Wharfedale's village scarecrow trail.

To prevent the boat going to landfill, the Rangers chose to upcycle the boat into a flowerbed to create a habitat for bees and butterflies, and David Wilson Homes helped the group with a £100 donation to buy plants from a local garden centre.

Lisa at 1st Burley-in-Wharfedale Rangers, said: "Many thanks to David Wilson Homes for supporting the Rangers' upcycling project. We are really pleased with the finished result."

Gavin Birch, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: "We are thrilled to support the Rangers by helping them purchase a variety of plants for the boat project."

David Wilson Homes is building in Burley-in-Wharfedale at its Centurion Meadows and Imperial Court developments.
