These Viral Laundry Pods Make My Closet Smell Like Sun-Drenched Blossoms

I've spent way too much time in the laundry aisle sniffing soap bottles like I'm selecting wine. In my years of experience, I've found that many detergents promising a "summer fruit" scent deliver something closer to synthetic candy, but I was still intrigued by Laundry Sauce's Mojave Peach. On social media, Gen-Zers are obsessed with Laundry Sauce -- if not for the unique scents and cleaning quality, then for the Instagram-worthy packaging. Between the intrigue and my own love of peaches, I had to test it out myself.

Out of the box, the pods smelled delicious, but also luxurious. The brand describes the fragrance as "rare peach tree blossoms in the Mojave Desert, dripping honeyed peach nectar with notes of mandarin." Cinnamon and star anise add an unexpected warmth that keeps these pods from being another saccharine fruit situation. They passed test one: no synthetic candy smell. But what made me nervous was the 'perfuminess' factor. Would my clothes smell like I'd been spritzed with fragrance instead of just freshly laundered? I'm very particular, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised.

The peach fragrance doesn't hit you like a perfume bomb. It has a gentle presence that builds in layers. The ylang and geranium notes are noticeable first, but not overwhelmingly so. By evening, you're left with creamy sandalwood and smooth vanilla.

And for the cleaning function itself? Wonderful. The bio-enzymes scrubbed out everything from wine on my maxi skirt to mascara on my pillowcase to whatever mysterious spots accumulate on my white shirts. My sweaters look less beaten up and my basics feel fresher longer. The detergent is doing the work while making everything smell incredible. And now I can't stop using these juicy little pods.

At $1 per load, Laundry Sauce is definitely more of a splurge than other options, but it's worth it for the extra dopamine rush you get when putting on your favorite shirt. Fair warning though, this scent is limited edition. If you fall hard for Mojave Peach like I did, you might want to stock up before it vanishes into the desert.
