Chatham Maroons' rookies stand out at GOJHL showcase

They combined for nine goals in two weekend wins at the annual event that attracts pro, junior and college scouts.

Liam Campbell led the Maroons Sunday with a natural hat trick in a 6-2 win over the Fort Erie Meteors at the Haldimand County Caledonia Centre.

Fellow rookie Ian Lachance added a goal and two assists. He also had three points, including two goals, in Friday's 6-2 win over the Welland Jr. Canadians.

"You can't argue with what some of these kids have been doing," Maroons head coach and general manager Richard Santos said. "When they're getting their opportunities, they're running with it."

Rookie forwards Parker Nyitray, Carter Chadwick and Trevor Zanutto also scored Friday.

Campbell leads all GOJHL rookies with 30 points in 23 games. Campbell is second among rookies with 16 goals and Lachance is tied for third with 13.
