The PS5 Is Selling "2x Faster" Than The PS4 Did In China, Driven In Part By Black Myth: Wukong's Huge Success - PlayStation Universe

The PS5 is selling "2x faster" than the PS4 did in China, according to a new report from games industry analyst firm Niko Partners. There are a few reasons for why this is happening that Niko identifies in its report, but one that will seem obvious to players is the release of Black Myth: Wukong.

Black Myth: Wukong has already smashed records on Steam after achieving the second-highest concurrent player count on the platform ever, but of course not everyone can experience developer Game Science's adaptation of Journey to the West with the latest PC hardware - a console, namely the PS5, is the way to go then.

Niko Partner analyst and director of research at Niko covering the games industry in Asia Daniel Ahmad also highlights that the PS5 was smartly put on a "limited time discount" that lined-up with the release of Black Myth: Wukong, which also surely helped drive sales further.

Ahmad also points out on Twitter that the PS4 did launch in China much later in its lifecycle, and the fact that when it did launch, it did so in a smaller console market than what exists now.

The other part of the equation that's helping PlayStation gain more traffic in China is the outreach and expansion work the company has done through initiatives like its China Hero Project.

This concerned effort from PlayStation, and the fact that the PS5 happened to be the lone-console on which the biggest game to come out of China in years is available on have helped to cement the platform in a more established way than ever before.

Niko's report all points to Black Myth: Wukong's release being a turning point for the games industry in China and the industry on a global scale, and it's PlayStation who are seemingly reaping the benefits of this change first.
