Frigid to end the weekend, how the holiday forecast looks for Columbus area

Tonight: Cloudy, AM clearing, low 18 Sunday: Sunny, cold, high 30 Monday: Some clouds, late showers, high 42 Tuesday: Morning showers, high 43 Wednesday: Cloudy skies, high 45

Temperatures have taken a tumble just in time for the weekend! The thermometer didn't break out of the freezing zone for the majority of Central Ohio. We're staying on the freezing side for a little longer, but more seasonable weather is one the way!

Northwesterly flow has kept cooler air steady in Columbus. For areas closer to the Great Lakes, they've seen a few lake effect snow showers throughout the day. Going into tonight, skies will gradually be getting clearer. Temperatures will be dropping into the teens by the start of Sunday.

To end off the weekend, we're still stuck with the cold weather. Temperatures will still remain a few degrees below freezing by Sunday afternoon. However, we will see some clearer skies leaving us with more sunshine. Winds will be much lighter, eliminating a lot of the wind chill from Saturday.

For the final full week of December, temperatures will bounce back to the lower 40s. A system will pass to our north, bringing scattered chances for showers late Monday into Monday night. Winds will pick up with gusts reaching 20 MPH. We do start to dry into Tuesday with temperatures still warming.

Not much of a chance for a white Christmas this holiday season. Temperatures for Wednesday will stay in the mid 40s with cloudier skies. We're heading closer to the lower 50s for the end of the week and next weekend. But, we're also tracking the return of more rain showers by the weekend as well.
