JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - So far, December has been one of the coldest months, with several arctic blasts reaching as far south as Florida. Although winter officially began on December 21st, according to the Almanac Calendar, winter arrived early.
This year, the National Weather Service made changes to their winter forecasting.

They will no longer issue hard freeze or wind chill advisories, but instead cold weather advisories and extreme cold warnings.
What do the Frost and Freeze Advisories mean?
Frost Advisory
A Frost Advisory means temperatures are usually forecast to be 33 to 36 degrees.
Freeze Watch
A Freeze Watch means the potential for significant, widespread freezing temperatures within the next 24-36 hours.
Freeze Warning
A Freeze Warning means significant, widespread freezing temperatures are expected.Cold weather safety tips:Outdoor water pipes should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly to prevent freezing and possible bursting.Cover in-ground sprinkler systems.Wear warm clothing. Check on older people, ensuring their heaters work and house heating is proper. It is important to note that 20 percent of body heat loss is through the head.Pets are also susceptible to extreme colds. Keep pets indoors as much as possible, or ensure outdoor pets have a dry and warm shelter and sufficient food and fresh water.Cover or bring in potted plants indoorsCheck your car tire pressure; oil, coolant, and other fluids are always topped off.
