Columbus Amazon driver puts suspected robber in headlock until police arrive

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) - A man is in custody after reportedly being placed in a headlock by the Amazon truck driver he was allegedly attempting to steal from.

According to court documents, Samuel Pritchard, 24, is facing one count of robbery stemming from a Sunday afternoon incident near Grandview Heights. Police said that at around 1 p.m. officers responded to a call about a fight near the intersection of West Third and Fairview avenues, where an Amazon delivery truck was parked.

The alleged fight involved a delivery truck driver and a man who is accused of attempting to steal the truck. The driver told police that while he was in the back of the truck, Pritchard hopped in the driver's seat and tried to drive off.

The driver, who suffered minor injuries during the fight, said he punched Pritchard and put him in a headlock. Pritchard fought back and tried to flee the scene, but the driver held onto him until police arrived.

During an interview at police headquarters, Pritchard said he was withdrawing from fentanyl and only remembered parts of what occurred. He was arrested on one count of robbery with attempting to inflict or threaten serious physical harm and issued a $150,000 bond in Franklin County Municipal Court.
