Good Morning Britain star makes sad death announcement as they pay moving tribute | Devon Live

ITV star Susanna Reid took a moment to pay tribute to two prominent figures during Wednesday's Good Morning Britain.

During Wednesday's edition of Good Morning Britain, ITV audiences witnessed Susanna Reid honouring D-Day hero Ronald Butcher and cinema legend Robert Redford.

Throughout the programme, which has recently seen one presenter admit to receiving resignation demands, hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna covered the day's top stories.

After completing their news round-up, which included Donald Trump's recent visit, the ITV presenter paused to acknowledge the sad death of two notable individuals.

She remarked: "I want to pay tribute to an extraordinary man, hero, D-Day Veteran Ronald Butcher, who has passed away at the age of 98.

"Earlier this year, just before VE-Day, Ronald spoke about dealing with trauma from the battlefield once the Second World War was over, fighting the memories, even in his sleep."

Footage was subsequently broadcast of Ronald, a distinguished Merchant Navy sailor, speaking to the Mirror as he revealed there was no support available at the time to help him manage the trauma he experienced following his wartime service, which frequently led to nightmares that transported him back to the battlefield, reports Wales Online.

He revealed: "My mother and father used to come and wake me up and sort me out."

Susanna informed viewers that today, Ronald's symptoms would suggest he suffered from PTSD.

Following her tribute to Ronald's death, Richard Madeley addressed another heartbreaking loss, that of Hollywood legend Robert Redford.

The ITV presenter remarked: "Talking of RIPs, we say goodbye to Robert Redford, who has been part and parcel of the fabric for so many people's cinematic lives as far as I can remember."

His co-host Susanna added: "He won an Oscar, didn't he? For Ordinary People, for directing, and for Best Picture. Of course, he set up The Sundance Film Festival, which launched many, many films."

Later in the programme, entertainment correspondent Richard Arnold commented: "We've lost an icon."

Robert was not only a filmmaker but also an actor, known for his role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It was announced that he died at the age of 89 at his home in Utah.

Following the announcement of his death, tributes have been flooding in from those within the showbiz industry.

Author Stephen King posted on X: "Robert Redford has passed away. He was part of a new and exciting Hollywood in the 70s and 80s. Hard to believe he was 89."

Actress Meryl Streep, who shared the screen with Robert, released a brief statement through her publicist: "One of the lions has passed. Rest in peace, my lovely friend."
