CITYWIDE -- NEW YORK'S KIDS WILL GET THEIR OWN VERSION OF THE JUST-CONCLUDED OLYMPICS this Wednesday, when the City Parks Foundation holds its 21st Annual City Parks Track & Field Citywide Championships. More than a thousand young track and field enthusiasts, aged 6 to 17, will participate on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in a field day of healthy competition at City Parks Held at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island. Youth with special needs will also compete. The young athletes have trained throughout the summer through the free CityParks Track & Field program at 11 sites across the five boroughs. This friendly "Battle of the Boroughs" brings teams from each park training site to showcase their track and field skills and represent their neighborhoods. Events at the Citywide Championships will include Javelin, Long Jump, Hurdles, Triple Jump, Shot Put & Disc, Parks Relay, 100m dash, 200m dash and 400m Run (with competitions organized by age group). Among the highlights will be a Parade of Parks, "Giant" Relay Race for PeeWee runners ages six to eight, a Coaches' Relay.
