Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and the United Kingdom have partnered in two initiatives: the Nature Transition Support Programme (NTSP) to preserve biodiversity in three national parks, and the Nature Investment Partnership (KIBAR) to advance social forestry.
The government stated that the NTSP, carried out with the UK, aims to protect biodiversity in Way Kambas National Park in East Lampung, as well as Tanjung Puting and Sebangau National Parks in Central Kalimantan.
"With this program, apart from maintaining biodiversity in Way Kambas, we can also maximize its potential. By protecting the national park, we can improve carbon credit and biodiversity credit," Forestry Affairs Minister Raja Juli Antoni said in East Lampung on Saturday.
According to Antoni, carbon and biodiversity credits are gaining global attention. Strengthening both is expected to provide incentives that support conservation efforts while improving local livelihoods.

"We are seen as a superpower by other countries because we have tropical forests. This is both a challenge and an opportunity," the minister noted.
On the same day, another program was launched: the Sustainable Nature Investment Partnership (KIBAR), also established in collaboration with the UK.
KIBAR focuses on social forestry, aiming to expand community access to forest use while preserving ecosystems to enhance public welfare.

Antoni added that effective management of non-timber forest products could also generate significant benefits.
The UK's Special Envoy for Nature, Ruth Davis, stated that the partnership reflects the joint commitment of both governments to protect ecosystems through NTSP and KIBAR.
She emphasized that the cooperation is rooted in shared concern for the environment, climate action, biodiversity protection, and people's welfare.
