In front of a crowd of 34,594 fans, the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox delivered an epic Saturday evening matchup. After Atlanta took the first game of the series and led 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, Boston stormed back with five unanswered runs to seal a thrilling victory.
The Red Sox plated two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to tie the game. That set the stage for the bottom of the ninth, when Rafael Devers stepped to the plate and smashed his eighth home run of the season, a walk-off shot that sent Fenway Park into a frenzy.
After the game, the Red Sox had a simple two-word message to celebrate the moment:
"THE MOMENT"
Devers had a slow start to the 2025 season, batting just .267 through April. But he's heating up in May, with 23 hits in just 56 at-bats.
The 28-year-old played in 138 games last season, hitting .272 with 28 home runs and 83 RBIs.
There were fireworks throughout the night as both teams combined for five home runs. Atlanta hit the first three, with Matt Olson and Marcell Ozuna going deep in the first inning. Rookie catcher Drake Baldwin added another in the fifth. Boston responded with Jalen Durant's third homer of the season in the bottom of the third before Devers' walk-off in the ninth.
The win improved Boston's record to 23-24, keeping them in second place in the AL East behind the New York Yankees. Atlanta fell to 23-23, placing them third in the NL East, trailing the Mets and Phillies.
The series wraps up Sunday afternoon, with Spencer Schwellenbach slated to start for Atlanta and Brayan Bello taking the mound for Boston.
