Support for Palestinian Education and Future State-Building
Singapore is providing full scholarships to three Palestinian students, demonstrating support for Palestinian education and teh future progress of a Palestinian state. The initiative, spearheaded by the Palestine Scholars Initiative (PSI), aims to equip these students with the skills and knowledge to contribute to the rebuilding of Palestine.
Minister for Home Affairs and Law K. Shanmugam expressed strong support for the program, stating, "We support a free Palestine, and they are good students. We'll be happy to have them here, and they can go back and contribute, as we all want to see a free Palestinian state, and that's going to need administrators, it's going to need people who can definitely help run the place." He encouraged the scholars to "imbibe as much as you can, study hard and also absorb what Singapore has to offer," envisioning them as a "bridge between Singapore and Palestine."
Shanmugam further emphasized the mutual benefits of the exchange, noting that Singaporean students will also gain from interacting with the palestinian scholars and learning about different cultures.
