As of Monday, Sept. 15, MacLean said the run had raised $57,145 through online and in-person donations, with that number likely to grow. This year's goal for the Exeter event was $43,600.

"We couldn't be prouder of how our community came together for this year's Terry Fox Run," she said. "The huge amount of support, energy and generosity was incredible. Not only did we surpass our fundraising goal, but we also raised more than ever before -- a true reflection of what can be accomplished when we unite for a cause that touches so many lives, especially those here in Huron County."

The top fundraising team for the Exeter run was once again Team Awesome Exeter, which this year raised $30,321. Team Awesome was created 10 years ago by the late Beth Hundey, who died in April at the age of 40 after a 10-year battle with cancer. The team raised more than $120,000 for the Exeter Terry Fox Run under Hundey's leadership, and this year family and friends continued their tradition of supporting the event.

"Beth would have been thrilled to know her team will carry on this September," her father Rick wrote in a recent letter to the Times-Advance.
