WAYNE COUNTY, MI - State police are investigating a crash early Sunday morning that left one person dead and another person badly injured.
The one-vehicle crash was reported to the Detroit Regional Communication Center around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in the city of Romulus.
Michigan State Police said a driver was traveling in a Ford Edge northbound on I-275 near I-94 when the vehicle went off the side of the road and struck a concrete bridge pillar.
The front seat passenger was ejected from the vehicle. At some point, the vehicle caught fire, and the driver was unable to get out.
The driver, who was not identified by age or gender, was pronounced dead on scene. Police say the passenger, who also was not identified, was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Their current condition is unknown.
