Launched on November 4, 2023, xAI's artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok AI, cost a premium and was only available to users who bought the subscription plan.
Over a year later, the chatbot is rolling out for free to all users on X/Twitter, much to the chagrin of folks who paid for the same. The trail was first visible in countries like New Zealand last month, but now is available across every country with a limit of 10 free prompts per two hours. The limit for image analysis is three. Text-to-Image generation is done via FLUX 1.
Meanwhile, users are reporting varying usage limits for different countries, including 6 prompts per day for India. There is no official word on the usage limit. The AI chatbot is available on both the app and the browser version. To avail seamless access to Grok, users will have to subscribe to a premium. The Elon Musk AI chatbot has raised $6 billion per SEC filing, amounting to a total funding of $12 billion now.
Meanwhile, the microblogging platform X/Twitter was bought by the billionaire owner for $44 billion, making it the most expensive tech acquisition ever. The owner himself became the richest billionaire in history riding on Trump's victory wave that saw a surge in the valuation of X. Per the Forbes Real Time Billionaires Index, the 53-year-old techpreneur is $354.9 billion.
Using the ChatGPT rival is easy breezy. Goes without saying one must be logged in to X/Twitter to begin with. Users can click on the Grok icon on the web or mobile browser to avail the AI. The AI will show popular prompts to try, or the user can try their own and generate texts and images.
