Disappointed in local news coverage of events

I'm disappointed in the news coverage by both the QC Times and our local TV stations. While I don't dislike the reports of various "for profit" businesses, including restaurant meal reports, I think "not for profit" groups who are doing great things for the community deserves some press also ... maybe more so.

Two weeks ago, The Bix Beiderbecke Society held its 53rd Jazz festival.

I believe it's the oldest continuous festival in the area. There are two free concerts, a river boat ride with a live band, and three nights and two afternoons of the fun music of the Bix era at the Rhythm City Casino. This event brings in people from all over the country and even the world! The event celebrates the music and life of Davenport's Bix who is wide world acclaimed. There was zero coverage of this event.

This past weekend, the Quad City Cruisers and The Pontiac Club co-hosted the first National Street Rod Association's National meet in Davenport at the Fair grounds. There were some 900 classic cars shown by people from all over the Midwest.

Like the Beiderbecke Festival, it deserved better stories about it happening in print and on television. An article about the thousands given to charity by the Cruisers would also seem appropriate.

So, in 2025, keep the first weekend in August and the second weekend in August open for these great events in case you don't read or hear it anywhere else. My hope is for better coverage.
