Obesity drugs, supplements fuel strength in Walmart's Health & Wellness sales
Within Walmart U.S., the strongest category in terms of comparable-store sales was Health & Wellness, which saw growth in the "low double-digit" percentage range.
Chief Executive Doug McMillon said on the post-earnings call with analysts, according to an AlphaSense transcript, that the strong performance of that category was primarily due to sales of GLP-1, or obesity drugs.
Chief Financial Officer John Rainey also said on the call that while GLP-1 sales led the category, he was "proud" of growth in sales of supplements.
"This is the time of year as people go back-to-school, back to college you can lean into categories like over-the-counter supplements and we can do really well but when you step back and look at the entire business inventory is down 2% across the business," Rainey said.
