Shubman Gill surpasses Rohit Sharma to becomes India's No.1 in WTC history, equals 'captain' Virat Kohli's record

India National Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill has notched up another stylish hundred and entered the record books on Saturday, October 11. Shubman Gill played his natural game and reached the three figures with a stylish shot off Khary Pierre for 3 runs in the ongoing second and final Test against the West Indies in Delhi.

With this knock, Gill has entered the record books by becoming the first Indian to score 10 centuries in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). While doing so, the stylish right-handed batter has surpassed the former India captain Rohit Sharma, who had 9 hundreds in 69 innings.

Gill achieved this milestone in just his 71st innings. The 2025 calendar year has been exceptional for the Punjab lad as Test captain, as it was his fifth hundred in only 12 innings. With this, Gill becomes the third fastest player to hit five Test hundreds as the captain.

England legend Alastair Cook (9 innings) and legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar (10 innings) reached the five hundreds in fewer innings than Gill. However, Virat Kohli also scored five hundreds in a year as the Indian captain in both 2017 and 2018, but it took him 16 and 24 innings, respectively.

Additionally, Gill now leads the all-time list of most hundreds for India in WTC history, with 10 centuries. Other stars featured in the list are Rohit (9), Yashasvi Jaiswal (7), Rishabh Pant (6), and KL Rahul (6).
