NASA's sounding rocket mission TOMEX+ took off from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia, making vapor trails in the sky.
Viewers sent in photos of the launch from Cary and Franklinton.
The launch window for TOMEX+ started Aug. 18 and runs nightly through Sept. 3, according to NASA. A launch was planned for Aug. 26, but NASA scrapped the mission, calling the weather conditions unfavorable.
According to NASA, the launch gives a clear 3-D view of turbulence at the edge of space.
