Well, that didn't take long. On Monday, the NCAA football transfer portal opened for the 2025 season. That was the same day Tulane star freshman quarterback Darian Mensah entered the portal. On Tuesday, Mensah made his first visit to Duke University. On Wednesday, he committed to play at Duke.
As a part of Mensah's visit on Tuesday, he attended the Blue Devils men's basketball game against Incarnate and was welcomed with open arms.
Mensah's team also reached out to an SEC school, but the program declined his team's proposal, Garland Gillen reported.
The quarterback was ESPN's No. 1 overall portal prospect this year, and as a redshirt freshman, he still has three years of eligibility remaining. Mensah is represented by Young Money APAA Sports, co-founded by Lil Wayne and Adie von Gontard.
In the 2024 season, the 6-foot-3 athlete completed 189 of 287 passes for 2,723 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. He led the Green Wave to the AAC championship game where the team lost to Army 35-14. Tulane was also ranked in the AP Top 25 during the season.
Tulane currently has the No. 70 2025 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The Green Wave have signed 15 3-star prospects.
