OPINION | Dr. Hamed Alalamat: Justice is needed for God's blessing; avoid rushed conclusions | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

God is the source of justice, and He wants His servants to be just and fair.

Oppression and injustice lead to destruction in this and the next life. People of faith must be always upright and pursue justice in every aspect of their life, even if it is against themselves and their loved ones.

They should be careful before taking any decision or carrying any opinion. They should not be hasty in giving any verdict or judge others lest they fall into the abyss of injustice.

The story of prophet David (Dawood in Islamic tradition) and the two opponents, which is mentioned in the Quran, teaches us a lesson (Chapter 38: 21- 26).

In it,David gave a quick judgment before listening to the other opponent.

Immediately, he realized that he was tested by God, "so (David) asked for his Lord's forgiveness, fell down in prostration, and turned to Him in repentance." Allah forgave him immediately and promised that David will "have a status of closeness to Us [God] and an honorable destination!"

Then Allah commanded him to "judge between people with truth" and advised him not to follow his "desires or they will lead you astray from Allah's Way."

The point of the story instead is about justice and fairness.

We are also not allowed to judge others by our own desires. Giving a rushed verdict before searching sincerely for the evidence/truth is not the right path for any sincere person who intends to establish justice on this Earth.

God took it on Himself to be just and to give everyone a chance, a voice, to defend himself. Even criminals on judgment day would be given the opportunity at one point to represent themselves.

Justice is not restricted to courts and cases. Rather it is about treating people fairly, dealing with them justly, and formulating right opinions about them.

Unfortunately, justice is missed completely or partially by many folks when personal interests are involved. Elections, wars, political gains, ego, desires, wealth, loyalty to a political party, tribe, country, family, friend, etc. are likely to make many people fall short from implementing justice.

It's easy to slip away from justice when someone is angry or emotional. It is easy to commit injustice (or to bless it) when someone dislikes or likes a people, or when a religious person fears for his faith, or when a cleric awaits prophecies to be fulfilled.

Injustice can be observed vividly at difficult moments that involve confrontations and conflicts. True believers must keep in mind the principle of justice in every case.

Justice in these difficult times is more needed to gain God's blessing.

The believing community should not fail to provide a good example to everyone. Believers must think deeply before taking any decision or saying something that contributes directly or indirectly to injustice.

Holding firmly to the principles that we teach is a protection from falling victim to inauthentic news or to the misguidance and manipulation of the ingenuine. Justice is a divine blessing that true believers perpetually seek.
