Aug. 24 -- GRAND FORKS -- Carson Macedo didn't start in ideal position.

He qualified ninth, took second in his heat race and finished sixth in the dash.

But once the World of Outlaws sprint feature started Friday night at River Cities Speedway, everything clicked for the driver from California.

"They did that rework (of the track) right before the feature," Macedo said. "I feel like that changed things a little bit. We adjusted for that and luckily, I think we hit it right where we needed to be. We were just good enough to move around and make speed anywhere we wanted."

Macedo stormed to the lead by the midway point of the 40-lap feature and held off Michael Kofoid to win the feature in front of a packed grandstand at The Bullring.

Sheldon Haudenschild finished third. Giovanni Scelzi, who won the World of Outlaws event in Grand Forks in June, took fourth. Fargo's Donny Schatz finished fifth, climbing six spots in the feature.

Among area drivers, Andy Pake of Felton, Minn., took 11th and Grand Forks native Mark Dobmeier finished 12th.

"We had a lot of speed," Macedo said. "I think our race car was really good. From the minute we fired off in the feature, I felt like we were able to move around and make speed where a lot of other guys couldn't. I felt like I could go all over the race track and it was really good."

It marked the deepest starting position in a World of Outlaws feature win for Macedo in more than two years. The last was Aug. 20, 2022, when he came from eighth to win in Jackson, Minn.

Since then, he's won 16 Outlaws races. He started on the pole in half of them. In the others, he started second four times, third once and fourth twice.

"Any time you can go from sixth to first in one of these Outlaw shows, you've got a good car," Macedo said. "I feel like I made really good decisions throughout the race that ultimately helped me win it. Hats off to my guys. They did a great job. We just want to keep building on it."

It marked Macedo's fifth World of Outlaws feature victory this summer and second in a week.

He won in Jackson, Minn., seven days earlier.

It also was Macedo's second win in Grand Forks. He also won a World of Outlaws feature in 2022.

"It's always good coming here," Macedo said. "It's always racy. There's always a packed grandstand. The track has been around for a long time. I feel like it's a good place, a good facility and we enjoy coming up here."

Macedo grabbed the lead out of a restart with 21 laps to go.

After that, he easily handled lapped traffic and held strong on two restarts.

"I felt good the whole race, but after the restart, I knew I could start standing up in the seat and running really hard," said Macedo, who turned in a fastest lap of :10.887.

The hard charger went to Tim Estenson, who started 24th and jumped eight spots to finish 16th.

The World of Outlaw sprints will race in Fargo on Saturday.

In the late model feature, someone finally topped Dustin Strand at River Cities Speedway.

Mike Greseth did a masterful job cutting through lapped traffic to hold off a hard-charging Strand and win by just under a second. Strand finished second, followed by Brad Seng, Lance Schill and Tucker Pederson.

It marked the first time since May 31 that someone other than Strand won a late model feature at The Bullring.
