Gogolook rolls out anti-scam app amid rising fraud in the Philippines - Manila Standard

Gogolook, a global trust tech company, rolled out an updated version of its anti-scam app, Whoscall, on Thursday to combat rising fraud in the Philippines.

The new app features advanced artificial intelligence (AI) scam protection and a "growth-driven anti-scam community," a collaborative approach that allows Filipinos to report scams and earn rewards for their contributions.

The move comes as 72 percent of Filipinos reported experiencing a scam, averaging one incident every two days, according to the 2025 Asia Scam Report: Philippines. The study, released by Gogolook in partnership with the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) and ScamAdviser, also found that scams were causing psychological distress to 52% of respondents and impacting the mental well-being of 40 percent..

"The new version establishes an anti-scam community built on four core pillars: global user reports, AI prediction technology, a comprehensive scam database, and collaboration with law enforcement and partners," Gogolook co-founder and global chief executive Jeff Kuo said.

Kuo said the new app aims to rebuild trust in the digital world, noting that last year, 9.5 million users from 57 countries contributed 135 million reports, "establishing Whoscall as a leading global anti-scam community."

Whoscall is also introducing a new "W" logo and a new interactive character, Vee, which serves as a "friendly advisor" to users.

Mel Migriño, Gogolook's country head and general manager in the Philippines, said scams are now "infiltrating all forms of communication -- from messaging apps and digital ads to even physical deliveries -- making social platforms a prime target."

"To counter evolving threats, Whoscall has moved beyond Caller ID and now offers comprehensive protection," Migriño said.

She said the recent upgrades include Web Checker, which alerts users to phishing or fake websites, and Check, which allows users to upload screenshots or photos to identify potential risks.

The company is also introducing a virtual badge system and a gamified feature called "Whoscall Mission" to reward user reports and strengthen the community.

The new feature, set to roll out in the fourth quarter, allows users to earn "Whoscall Points" that can be redeemed for app upgrades or partner vouchers.
