How Wisconsin track and field athletes fared on day 3 of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships

The University of Wisconsin men's and women's track and field teams ended their time at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships strong on Sunday.

The successful final day ended with two gold medals, three silvers and a pair of bronzes, along with a few additional top-10 finishes.

How Wisconsin track and field athletes fared on day 2 of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships

The men's team tied Minnesota with 81 points for second place. Oregon ran away with the competition, scoring 110. The women (25 points) secured 11th, while Southern Cal won with a point total of 121.

Here are some of the standout performances from Wisconsin athletes.

Giovanni Wearing posted a major improvement from his qualifying race Saturday to his final's performance in the men's 110-meter hurdles Sunday.

Wearing ran a season-best 13.46 seconds to win the competition. That bested the junior's mark of 13.62 from Saturday that garnered his fourth-place qualifying score.

Men's 1500 meters

Adam Spencer was the lone other Badgers athlete to prevail with a gold Sunday.

Spencer was hovering in third at about the quarter mark of the 1500 but turned on the gas late to prevail.

His time of 3:53.18 earned him first place, pushing ahead of Washington's Nathan Green (3:53.25) by just .07 seconds at the finish line.

Freshman Liam Newhart also raced, with his time of 3:54.85 putting him in eighth.

Men's 5000

The Badgers boasted four runners in the top six in the men's 5000.

Bob Liking led the quartet, finishing in 13:32.47 to take second. He was in sixth at about the halfway point but sped up near the end to claim silver.

Wisconsin teammates Matan Ivri (13:33.79), Rowen Ellenberg (13:35.61) and Christian de Vaal (13:35.97) trailed Liking, ending up in third, fifth and sixth, respectively.

Archie Noakes passed the 3400 mark in 9:18.02, which was the lead time, but he did not finished.

Simeon Birnbaum, of Oregon, won in 13:31.87.

Men's 400

Jalen Williams ended his weekend with a second-place time in the 400.

After placing third in qualifying the day before, Williams ran a time of 45.61 in the final.

Southern Cal's William Jones' 45.39 mark placed first.

Men's discus

Wisconsin's men's discus record holder, Joseph White, had another big day to add to his decorated career.

Sitting in fourth after his fifth throw, White reached a mark of 196 feet, 2 inches on his sixth - and final - toss.

The throw earned him second, behind UCLA's Michael Pinckney's mark of 197-2.

Badgers teammate Jake Schaefer placed eighth, throwing 183-9.

Women's 800

Emma Kelley had the best women's performance of the day, placing third in the 800.

She finished the race in 2:04.71, as Oregon's Klaudia Kazimierskav (2:02.92) earned gold.

Women's javelin

The third of Taylor Kesner's six javelin throws was her best.

With a toss of 163-9, she took sixth. Nebraska's Maddie Harris (191-6) earned the title.

Men's 800

Wisconsin had two runners in the men's 800, led by a fifth-place performance by Andrew Casey in 1:48.54. Patrick Hilby (1:49.24) also placed eighth.

Penn State's Allon Clay (1:47.93) took the gold.
