It was much drier out there than we were expecting Saturday! We only saw a few showers here in the Portland metro area and they remained very light-- we picked up a total of 0.02'' of rain. We're expecting more rain Sunday- perhaps closer to a quarter inch- but it'll all be in the morning. It looks mainly dry for us in the afternoon with potentially a sunbreak or two!

Our morning low temperature of 50 degrees at PDX broke the daily warm low record set in 2023 (of 49 degrees). High temperatures were in the mid 50s.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS NEXT WEEK

The firehose will really turn on Monday. Models keep speeding up the arrival of this atmospheric river, and now Monday is actually looking like our biggest rain day of the week. For that reason, we've added Monday as a First Alert Weather Day. Monday through Wednesday will all be very wet days, with models putting our rainfall totals anywhere from 1'' to 2'' in the valleys per day. Safe estimates are 2-4'' of rain in the valleys and 6-12'' in the mountains over those three days, which is quite a bit of rain in a short time even for the PNW during the rainy season.

Best case scenario: You don't live near a river or a low-lying area that floods and it'll just be wet and windy at times. Worst case scenario: Flooding for the typical culprits (rivers that drain from the Cascades and Coast Range) and low-lying areas + scattered power outages as some trees come down. We could also see some mudslides. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for basically all areas through and west of the Cascades from Sunday night through Thursday night.

Our wind gust forecast hasn't changed-- isolated gusts in the 40s are possible along the coast, gusts in the 30s inland Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday is actually looking a bit calmer now, but it'll likely still be breezy.

The atmospheric river event winds down Wednesday night, and it looks more dry than wet Thursday through Saturday with just a few showers.

BOTTOM LINE

It's going to be wet, warm and windy over the next several days. Keep an eye out for possible flooding and landslides early next week!

With the wet season upon us, remember you can check the radar before heading out the door on the free FOX 12 Weather App.
