LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A man is on trial for a deadly crash that killed a young girl in Laurens County.
On Monday, Gabriel Arteaga pleaded not guilty to reckless homicide.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, Arteaga was the driver of a pickup truck that ran a stop sign and crashed into the side of an SUV.
Three-year-old Madison Hines was a passenger in the SUV. She died on the scene, just days before her fourth birthday.
The crash happened on Chestnut Ridge Road near US 76 in Laurens County in October 2023.
Officials said Arteaga was driving without a license.
The driver of the SUV and two other passengers were seriously hurt.
The jury was selected on Monday afternoon. The trail is set to start on Tuesday morning.
