Celebration of inspirational icons opens in Liverpool

A celebration of Inspirational icons has opened in Mathew Street, Liverpool.

Liverpool Legends was given the red carpet treatment at a star-studded gala evening.

A hundred inductees to the newly-created Hall of Fame were welcomed at a celebrity party.

The permanent exhibition on three floors is housed in the world-famous Beatles Museum.

The list of Inductees will be added to each year from now on.

Museum curator Roag Best, brother of Beatle Pete Best, welcomed the guests who ranged from the diverse fields of stage, screen, music, sport and culture - from both sides of the River Mersey under the umbrella title 'Liverpool Legends.'

Roag told the Wirral Globe: "The Liverpool Legends Hall of Fame 2025 is just the start of something bigger - we are very excited and proud about thanking those famous inspirational individuals who have given so much to the area.

"We celebrate the spirit of the sons and daughters of Liverpool - one of the most influential cities in the world."

The landmark exhibition pays tribute to the actors, writers, musicians and cultural icons from the past seven decades.

Adds Roag: "From the stages of the West End to football's greatest arenas, from the silver screen to recording studios around the world we recognize those whose achievements have carried the city's pride and personality far beyond the Mersey."

The Hall of Fame brings together rare memorabilia, photographs and personal stories.

Roag says the Hall of Fame salutes the stars of the past, present and the future.

He adds: "What is it about Liverpool? There must be something in the water."

Attending the inaugural event were Billy J. Kramer, Billy Butler, Pauline Daniels, Cathy Tyson, Les Dennis, Pete Hooton of The Farm, Ian Prowse of Amsterdam and Red Dwarf star Craig Charles, who has donated one of his jackets.

Lady Anne Dodd was in attendance to represent her late husband - Sir Ken Dodd. One of his tickling sticks is on display.

And another item in a glass case is Ricky Tomlinson's vest from The Royle Family.

Many stars of Wirral were included notably The Coral and there is recognition for Birkenhead legends Paul O' Grady and Adrian Henri.
