Bangladesh face Sri Lanka in Asia Cup clash on Saturday

Bangladesh face Sri Lanka in Asia Cup clash on Saturday

Bangladesh will look to maintain their winning momentum as they take on Sri Lanka in a high-stakes group match of Asia Cup T20 tonight at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The match is scheduled to begin at 8:30 PM Bangladesh time and will be broadcast live on T Sports and Nagorik TV.

Bangladesh began their Asia Cup campaign in style, securing a convincing seven-wicket victory over Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, this will be Sri Lanka's first outing in the tournament, as they start their title defense.

A win tonight would place Bangladesh firmly on the path to the Super Four stage, while a defeat would make their progression significantly more difficult.

With that in mind, the Tigers are brimming with confidence, buoyed by recent T20 success -- including a series win against Sri Lanka on their home turf.

"We've faced Sri Lanka recently and are quite familiar with their strengths and weaknesses," said Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib. "That gives us an advantage. Beating them in that series also boosts our morale. Still, we know they're a strong T20 side, and we must deliver our best."

While Bangladesh enjoy recent form, Sri Lanka hold the historical edge. Out of 20 T20Is played between the two sides, Sri Lanka have won 12 compared to Bangladesh's 8.

In Asia Cup encounters, Sri Lanka dominate with 14 wins from 17 matches. However, in the T20 format of the Asia Cup, the teams are evenly matched at 1-1.

Bangladesh claimed a 23-run win in 2016 edition, while Sri Lanka avenged that loss with a two-wicket victory in 2022 -- a tournament they went on to win.

The last edition of the Asia Cup in 2023 was played in the ODI format, with India emerging as champions after defeating Sri Lanka in the final.

As defending T20 champions, Sri Lanka will be eager to start strong. Bangladesh, on the other hand, are unlikely to make changes to their playing XI from the opening match.
