MITCHELL -- Mitchell Community Schools is reaching out to local businesses to sponsor its athletics program for the 2025-26 school year, with the goal of boosting student opportunities and community engagement.
Athletic Director Jeff Hein said all sponsorship proceeds will go toward allowing every MCS student free admission into home athletic events. The district, which serves about 1,500 students, fields multiple teams and hosts numerous tournaments each year.
With the addition of a new four-court fieldhouse and three turf sports fields, Mitchell officials expect the community to become a hub for youth sports tournaments in southern Indiana. Hein said that growth is expected to bring more visitors to the city, benefiting restaurants, hotels, and local businesses.
"This is not only a great way to get more involved with the community, but also an excellent marketing opportunity for local businesses," Hein said in a letter to area vendors.
Sponsorships will include branding exposure in front of large crowds at games and tournaments, generating impressions in both the local area and surrounding communities.
Hein emphasized that supporting the athletics program strengthens the broader community. "You are making Lawrence County and the Mitchell community a better place to live and visit," he said.
