Dave Mustaine wants final Megadeth show to be in space

Dave Mustaine has claimed he would like to play Megadeth's final ever show in space, saying: "That would be cool".

The frontman was speaking in a new interview with Metal Hammer in light of the band's recent announcement of their final album and farewell tour, in which he made some exorbitant plans in order to truly go out with a bang.

"I hope we'll be playing up in space," Mustaine mused. "I think that will be a really fitting climax."

Noting that he would not settle for second best, he continued: "I'm not talking about on the side of a vomit comet. A gig on the Moon, a full moon landing, that would be cool."

It seems that Mustaine could have a while to put his space age plans in motion, as he recently revealed in another interview that the thrash metal rockers' farewell tour could last anywhere from three to five years.

But despite looking at a long term goal, Mustaine said it was right for Megadeth to draw to a close as, "I'm not caught up in longevity and stuff like that, and being one of those guys who can play until he's in his 80s. I have to remember that people live and they die. And I need to take good care of myself."

The farewell tour will be hugely shaped by the band's back catalogues as well as their forthcoming self-titled final album, which is set to be released on January 23rd, 2026.

However, the frontman is still set on his extraterrestrial plans, as he said: "People already travel over 40,000 feet altitude, and when you get to that kind of atmosphere you're basically already in space."

He added: "So I do think it's going to happen. The question is, are people going to be able to inhabit the moon?"
