LILY ALLEN was devastated when her four-year marriage to Stranger Things and Marvel star David Harbour crumbled in December.
She'd moved to New York to start a new life with the US actor, who she wed in 2020 a year after meeting on celebrity dating app Raya.
But on new album West End Girl, out today, Lily paints a picture of how her fairytale life was anything but.
And the 14-track record, her first in seven years, makes some shocking claims as it documents the unravelling of a relationship.
But in a twist that will have listeners scratching their heads, she describes the bombshell contents as a "fusion of fact and fiction".
She said: "I'm nervous. I've gone back and forth over whether to release this. It's inspired by very personal episodes from my life.
"The record is very vulnerable because it depicts something many of us go through and fear -- a break-up.
"I've tried to document the events that led me to where I am now. At the same time, I've used shared experiences as the basis for songs which delve into why we humans behave as we do. So the record is a mix of fact and fiction."
The Smile singer, who has now moved back to London with her two daughters from her first marriage, took just ten days to write and record the album.
Its title track recalls the joy of her move Stateside before the thrill of landing her role in 2021 West End show 2:22 A Ghost Story.
But after telling how she returned to London for rehearsals, the music fades and we hear an emotional phone call, with Lily saying: "OK, well it doesn't make me feel great . . . If that's what you need to do then . . . I guess. I mean, it makes me really sad but . . . I want you to be happy. I love you."
On the second track, Ruminating, she sings: "Why can't you wait for me to come home? This conversation's too big for a phone call. Ruminating, ruminating, I've been up all night. Did you kiss her on the lips, and look into her eyes? Did you have fun? Now that it's done, baby, won't you tell me I'm still your number one? 'Cause you're my number one."
On third track Sleepwalking, she claims, "You won't love me, you won't leave me. You don't touch me, still so needy," before adding: "Been no romance since we wed. 'Why aren't we f***ing, baby?' Yeah, that's what you said. But you let me think it was me in my head, and nothing to do with them girls in your bed."
Then there is Tennis, which will inevitably set off an army of fans trying to answer a question which Lily asks: "Who's Madeline?"
She sings: "I read your texts, and now I regret it. I can't get my head round how you've been playing tennis. If it was just sex, I wouldn't be jealous. You won't play with me, and who's Madeline?"
She adds: "I got a lot of information that I can't even process. So I wrote a little email and I told you what I saw. And then you came up to the bedroom and you made it all my fault."
But it is on the tracks P***y Palace, 4Chan Stan and Just Enough where the most shocking claims are made and may be where she says it veers more into fiction.
Lily does admit to using dating app Tinder during the marriage and on Dallas Major she says she was doing so "for validation".
And on Let You Win, she appears to explain why she has decided to write the album.
She sings: "I can walk out with my dignity if I lay my truth on the table. Lie to the children, the ending was mutual, I'll shoulder all of the pain.
"I'm sick of carrying, suffering for your sins. I've already let you in, so why should I let you win. You've taken everything."
