Laser pointers sold in Canada recalled, warning issued for pet toys sold on Amazon

Health Canada has issued a product recall for certain laser pointers sold in Canada.

Great Powerful 15 cm laser pointer pens in green, red and violet colours have been recalled over eye injury risks.

"Immediately stop using the recalled products and return to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement," Health Canada warned in the recall notice issued on Oct. 10.

Health Canada said these products are classified as Class 3B, which present an increased risk of permanent eye injury.

"Injuries result from the laser beam being directed in the eyes, even from short unintentional exposure," the government agency warns.

Laser pointers impacted by the recall include the Powerful Green Laser Pointer Pen (Model No. 1478), Powerful Red Laser Pointer Pen (Model No. 1479) and Powerful Violet Laser Pointer Pen (Model No. 1480).

Health Canada notes the recalled laser points are unmarked and unbranded and will be marked as "Laser Pointer Pens."

The laser pointers were sold between January 2019 and September 2025.

Health Canada warns laser pointer pet toys sold on Amazon pose eye injury risk

Health Canada issued a consumer advisory for the Gniby LED Pointer 3 in 1 rechargeable interactive laser toy for cats and dogs as the product could pose the risk of permanent eye injury.

The product had been available online in Canada through Amazon under ASIN No. B0BZTZL512 and Model No. 9318.

Health Canada classified the product after testing as a Class 3B portable laser, which poses a danger to human health or safety. These types of lasers have an increased risk of permanent eye injury.

The product has been pulled from Amazon, however, Health Canada contacted the foreign company who was selling the product, but said they've been "unresponsive to requests to voluntarily recall."

How to report an issue with a consumer product, drug or food

You can report a food concern or complaint to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency online.

Consumers can report any health or safety incidents related to the use of products by filling out a consumer product incident report form.

Report any drug or health product side effects or complaints to Health Canada.
