The Los Angeles Dodgers made a surprising roster move on Wednesday and it could mean there are more to come.

After slashing .308/.424/.514 in 107 at-bats in Triple-A so far this season, Dalton Rushing has been called up to the Dodgers' big-league roster. Given the amount of highly-paid veteran talent already on the team, the move was a bit of a surprise. But Rushing is a well-regarded prospect.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers designated veteran catcher Austin Barnes for assignment. But it's not clear exactly where Rushing will get most of his playing time in the majors.

"Despite Rushing's obvious talents, it was unclear how the Dodgers would fit him in," wrote Darragh McDonald for MLB Trade Rumors. "Will Smith has been the club's regular catcher for years and is signed through 2022. Teams with two good catchers will sometimes use the designated hitter spot to distribute more at-bats but the Dodgers can't do that. They have Shohei Ohtani in the DH spot every day and he's also signed through 2033."

Rushing has played some first base and some left field in the minors, and his versatility in general could mean the Dodgers will look to substitute some struggling veterans for him. Max Muncy could be one, and so could Michael Conforto.

"...this move puts some immense pressure on a handful of other players on the Dodgers active roster," per Noah Camras of Dodgers Nation. "First and foremost, the pressure is now on left-hitting outfielder Michael Conforto, who has struggled mightily to start the season, hitting just .172 with an OPS of .590. While Rushing's primary position is catcher, the Dodgers have also used him in left field during his time in the minor leagues."

After giving Conforto a $17 million deal to join the team for this season, the Dodgers could look to give him a bit more time to figure it out at the plate. But if a turnaround doesn't happen soon, his spot might become Rushing's.
