SLATON, Texas (KCBD) - Slaton first responders arrived to the 900 block of S 1st St. on Wednesday afternoon for reports of a fire.

According to Slaton PD, a fire started in the kitchen of the home and one man was able to get out with the help of Slaton officers.

The fire, which was contained to just the kitchen, created a large amount of smoke. Due to smoke inhalation, the man was taken to a local hospital by EMS.

The family told police they're thankful for the city officers for saving the man's life.
