Polaris Dawn mission begins as crew finally launches into space

Polaris Dawn lifted into space Tuesday morning out of the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, starting the private spaceflight's five-day journey.

The launch occurred at 5:23 a.m. Eastern Time and came after liftoff was pushed back by nearly two weeks, mostly due to impending weather.

Polaris Dawn is a private spaceflight operated by SpaceX and commanded by billionaire Jared Isaacman, who also funds the Polaris program. Isaacman previously flew on Inspiration4 back in 2021.
