Orlando City signs high-scoring forward Duncan McGuire to new deal

On the back of playing in the Paris Olympics with Team USA, Orlando City forward Duncan McGuire has signed a new contract that runs through 2027 with a team option for '28.

"Ever since I got here, Orlando just felt like a great place for me to be at. I felt welcomed by the fans and by my teammates and staff and in the community," McGuire told the Sentinel about the decision. "In the end, I thought about it, I decided that I'd like to stay and continue to build on what we have going here and be here long-term."

McGuire has been a revelation for Orlando City since being selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. The Omaha, Neb., native has scored 20 goals in 48 MLS appearances for the Lions and helped lead the team to the quarterfinals of the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Much of that success is down to the staff and the players around him, according the McGuire. Coach Oscar Pareja has played an instrumental role in getting the most out of the young forward.

"Oscar is a great coach. He knows how to deal and coach you based on where you come from and what level you're at," McGuire said. "I think he does a great job at coaching me and providing me with the tools I need to be successful."

Before this season, McGuire seemed destined for a move to Blackburn Rovers in the second tier of English soccer. That move fell through at the transfer deadline.

"They welcomed me back when that January transfer thing didn't go well," he said. "Seeing that kind of made me realize what an amazing place this is."
