Some background on bust Colchester food company after more than 30 years of service

WE took a look at the background of BonCulina, a food supply business for hospitals and public services which is now in administration.

The Colchester-based company began in 1992, operating under the name Bidewhile Limited and since then has gone on to become a supplier across various sectors.

This included not only hospitals but education, care homes and defence.

The name they were most notably known as was Anglia Crown which now identifies as BonCulina.

The company is said to have supplied hospitals across the country, including London, Liverpool and Cumberland.

The company has seen a downward spiral in recent times since the appointment of new directors in September 2024.

Since then workers who have now been made redundant have said they have experienced big contracts falling through and have endured late payments or no payments.

Administrators were brought in on November 11.

In a letter seen by the Gazette, employees were notified they no longer have a contract as a result of the company's insolvency.

It is believed more than 150 employees have been made redundant as a result.
