Suspected DUI crash in Bakersfield kills one, injures two others Sunday morning

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- One person was killed, and 2 others were injured in a suspected DUI crash early Sunday morning, according to the Bakersfield Police Department. As officers investigated the crash, 2 additional drivers were arrested on suspicion of DUI after they had driven through a police barricade.

Officers reported to Panama Ln. and Stine Rd. regarding a two-vehicle crash around 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 24, 2025.

When officers arrived, they found two cars with major damage west of the intersection.

They also found a woman in her 20's in the roadway suffering from major injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kern County Coroner's Office will release her identity at a later time.

The investigation found a vehicle driving westbound hit a vehicle driving southbound in the intersection.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The woman who died was a passenger who was thrown out of the car during the crash.

The driver of the westbound vehicle suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital.

Both speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

During the investigation, two vehicles drove through a police barricade and into the crash scene.

Both drivers, a man and woman, were detained and found to be under the influence. Both were booked into the Kern County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this crash is asked to call BPD at (661) 327-7111.
