The first warming centre service of the season is opening tonight at the 'Ksan Society's Turning Points space on the 4400 Block of Lakelse Ave. tonight.
The scheduled hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Dec. 18, a City of Terrace release this afternoon stated.
The provincial emergency management and climate readiness ministry is providing the money for the service which is in response to this week's markedly cold temperatures and windy conditions.
Those weather conditions are sufficient to meet the threshold so that the ministry will finance the service, the city release added.
Hot beverages, snacks, washrooms and showers will be available.
The 'Ksan Society, Terrace and District Community Services Society (TDCSS), Kermode Friendship Society, and Gitlaxdax Nisga'a Terrace Society are involved as well.
Warming centres are meant to be a temporary service when the weather turns extremely cold. Staffing is provided by the agencies when they are able to do so.
