WASHINGTON (TNND) -- Prominent figures in politics reacted to the death of former GOP Vice President Dick Cheney on Tuesday, following reports of his death.
Cheney, who served as vice president under President George W. Bush, passed away at age 84, according to his family.
"Laura and I will remember Dick Cheney for the decent, honorable man that he was," Bush said in a statement, obtained by Fox News.
"History will remember him as among the finest public servants of his generation -- a patriot who brought integrity, high intelligence, and seriousness of purpose to every position he held."
In his life, Cheney dealt with many heart issues and ended up getting a transplant in 2012.
Former New York GOP Rep. George Santos reacted and said he wouldn't "shed a tear" for a war criminal.
"Dick Cheney will meet his maker and will have lots of explaining to do," Santos wrote. "I wish his family well all things considered, but I haven't and won't ever shed a tear for a war criminal of his ilk."
Georgia GOP Rep. Mike Collins offered condolences to his family.
"Dick Cheney was a giant in American politics, and his impact will be felt for decades," Collins wrote on X. "My condolences to the Cheney family as we remember the legacy of our 46th Vice President."
Turning Point USA leader Tyler Bowyer weighed in on Cheney's death.
"Never forget the story of Dick Cheney: The Man who introduced Neocon ideology to the world was HATED by the media," he wrote. "Villainized until the moment he came out against Trump. He then became a hero of the left wing media to attack the right. Horrific episode in American politics."
Cheney is survived by his wife Lynne, his daughters Mary Cheney and former Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney and seven grandchildren.
