HAMMOND -- An organization focused on enhancing quality of life for Hispanics in Northwest Indiana, and sharing information and cultural opportunities with everyone in the Region, has more resources to carry out its mission.

The Horseshoe Casino in Hammond recently donated $7,448 in charitable collections from its staff to the Hammond Hispanic Community Committee (HHCC) of Northern Indiana.

"On behalf of almost 800 team members, we're proud to support the Hammond community and the greater Northwest Indiana region to assist in funding activities spotlighting Hispanic Heritage Month," said Bill Gustafson, Horseshoe general manager and senior vice president at Caesars Entertainment.

The donation follows a September concert at the casino by Voz de Mando for which Horseshoe provided 40 complimentary tickets to HHCC.

"Those tickets were offered through our organization as an outreach tool for the Hammond community. Now we've received this generous donation, and we're hoping to return the favor by connecting applicants for their job opportunities through the HHCC," said Deborah Trevino, HHCC president.

In addition to its workforce development initiatives, HHCC also awards academic scholarships and hosts a free, annual Latino Resource Fair showcasing local colleges, social services, legal agencies, churches, insurance companies and health care industry representatives.
